Clazzi Returns with Album Jam-Packed with Idols

Clazzi of electronica group Clazziquai has come back sans members Alex and Horan but with an army of idols instead for his recent solo endeavor.

Clazzi returned to the K-Pop scene after a three-year hiatus with his first solo album in January. Enews met with the musician, who said, “I’ve come back as Clazzi, not Clazziquai. Nothing has really changed since then. If I had to choose something—the vocals? Instead of Alex and Horan, idols of different generations participated in the album.”

The 11-track album, Infant, features the vocals of Yi Sung Yol, Kim Wan Sun, Kota and Ju B of Sunny Hill, W & Whale, Alex’s older sister Christina, 2AM’s Lim Seulong as well Lee Hyun Song and Lee Soo Ryun of The Koxx.

“[Kim] Wan Sun nuna is a first generation idol, former H.O.T member Jang Woo Hyuk is a second-generation idol while 2AM’s Seulong and Sunny Hill’s Kota and Ju B are idols of today’s generation,” said Clazzi.” [Lee] Sung Yol hyung is my idol. He is someone whom I would not be ashamed to say ‘I respect you’ to.”

Clazzi continued, “Kim Wan Sun is Korea’s Madonna. She has a powerful charisma that comes from years of experience and her career. Jang Woo Hyuk was reticent throughout the album production process. Recording wasn’t difficult, but when the office employees crowded around to take photos afterwards [it was difficult].”

Of the now-generation idol Lim Seulong, Clazzi said, “He’s visually appealing and cool and is reminiscent of the statue of David.” He said of Kota and Ju B, “They have a powerful charisma on stage, but in real life, there was a twist because they exude the innocence of middle school students. They made me laugh as soon as we met.”

Many are curious to see the synergistic effect of the collaborations between Clazzi and these musicians from diverse backgrounds in the new album.
